Happy New Year

So, it’s 2018. Some how. On January 13, 2018 it’s a rainy Saturday and I’m sitting in my car in a parking lot writing this post while Carter is at a hockey practice and the little ones are (thankfully) sound asleep. When I started this blog I expected to share (at least) one post each week. Easy right? Yes, easy until my already busy life got crazy.

In the past month I have lost two of my grandfathers. One of whom I thought would live forever, my heart broke in two. I have created Christmas magic for my kids, I have overseen the busiest time of the year here at The Parlour, I have tried to maintain the progress in my home, my sessions in the hot room…you get the picture. I have cried, then laughed, then I cried and laughed harder. There have been difficult conversations with my kids, periods of reflection with myself and the outcome of these challenges is knowing that 2018 is going to be one for the books my friends.

I am fired up and so is the entire team at The Parlour. We are upping our game again and we can’t thank you enough for following along with us here and supporting us while we chase our dreams every day in the salon. This year will be the most stylish, most honest, most interactive open year yet. Here’s to real talk and feeling fine!

I want to leave you with something this week as we kick off the New Year a little late: 10 Life Lessons I Learned from my Papa. I vow to be guided by this list and I encourage you to do the same.

  1. Be kind. Always. To everyone. But take no shit.
  2. Be resilient. Regardless of your circumstances. Regardless how many times you are dealt a poor hand or some one knocks you down. Get up, be strong and push on.
  3. Make no excuses.
  4. Take care of your hair. Seriously, my Papa had one enviable mane.
  5. Family first. Be proud of them and love them hard.
  6. Soak up the sun. As often as possible and preferably topless. If you knew my Papa you would know that if he did have a shirt on it was likely unbuttoned halfway down his chest.
  7. Keep moving. If you don’t use it you lose it.
  8. Work hard. Maybe more importantly be proud of your work.
  9. Everything in moderation.
  10. Expect nothing. Appreciate everything.

Here’s to one hell of a year!
